Adel, originally known as “Penoach”, is
located along the Raccoon River at the
juncture of Highways 6 and 169 in south
central Dallas County.
Adel has four-lane highway accessibility to
Interstate 35, thirteen miles east of Adel,
and convenient access to Interstate 80, six
miles south.
Adel is
conveniently located near local shopping
malls, such as Jordan Creek Town Center and
Valley West Mall, restaurants, and other
area attractions.
Adel is proud of its own active downtown
business district with its unique shops and
businesses. Please feel free to park in
the firm’s parking lot when you visit one of
Iowa’s most unique specialty shops,
the
Atherton House.
Adel has been home to some of Iowa’s most
celebrated citizens, including Nile Kinnick,
winner of the 1939 Heisman Trophy, and
Governor George Clarke.
Many historic structures around town can
still be visited. Adel takes pride in
retaining its small town atmosphere.
As county seat for Dallas County, Adel will
undoubtedly be “where it’s at” as central
Iowa poises for continued growth during the
21st century.
